mcHAT EXTENSION BOARD
for Raspberry Pi
This expansion board kit is used to address the needs and additional features of all basic versions of the Raspberry Pi platform. It provides power over ethernet, external power input or output, includes hardware time including a backup battery, as well as our display power solution. The silent maglev fan, together with the passive heat sink, ensures the optimum processor temperature.

DESIGN ASSEMBLY

Low installation height, simple and efficient installation, good access, the possibility of another superstructure, this and other tweaks were the goal of our design.

DISPLAY POWER DISTRIBUTION

Part of this board is an integrated patented mcSMARTCON solution providing power supply to the display without additional cables and the use of main connector pins. This solution ensures convenient and quick installation.

POE & DATA SPLIT

Passive POE solution is simple, but it is necessary to solve the separation of power supply from data. Here we have created a user-friendly and again structurally minimalist solution, using a standard data cable with RJ45 connectors on both sides.

POWER OVER ETHERNET

Providing power from the passive input is one of the main tasks of this product. The RJ45 connector on the fan side is used for this function, see figure. This ensures easy installation of the electrical installation. The power supply is primarily built for 12 and 24V supply voltages with a maximum input of up to 48V.

POLARITY PROTECTION

Part of our solution is protection against polarity reversal. The wrong polarity of the input power supply is indicated by a red LED. This signaling also serves as an indication of the presence of AC voltage, which is also undesirable.

POWER SUPPLY CONNECTOR

The board is equipped with a connector that allows two uses. The first is used for external power supply of the entire system, for example for use in switchboards and communication via WiFi. The second use is to output passive voltage from the POE to other peripherals.

RTC WITH BATTERY

Realtime clocks are an integral part of industrial applications and at the same time the missing link in the raspberry pi product. Losing the notion of time in industrial applications is a big problem and therefore our solution complements it. There is also a standard replaceable CR2032 battery, providing time updates even when switched off.

FUN OF TYPE MAGLEV

For active cooling for cooling at higher and long-term loads, we chose a quiet and maintenance-free maglev fan. Maglev is a system where the rotor is carried on a non-contact magnetic field. For its control, the processor uses a continuously adjustable linear voltage source to prevent incorrect control and reduced service life. It is thus possible to connect a fan to this output which does not support direct pwm control.

PASSIVE ALUMINIUM COOLER

The passive heat sink increasing the thermal capacity of the processor is an integral part of our product in the package. It provides increased resistance of the processor to heating under dynamic load and thus ensures quiet and smooth operation of the entire cooling system. Its size is a balance between flat and low development.

HEADER CONNECTOR

The full-featured 40-pin through-out connector is used to connect additional expansion boards designed for the Raspberry Pi. This allows full use of the system in any already designed project.

COMPATIBILITY OF PRODUCTS

Although the products are offered for wider use separately, many of them have been developed together to form an ideal and comprehensive connection for any end application. If you have doubts or you are interested in combining specific products, write to us.

FAQ
With which raspberry boards are compatible?
This board is compatible with Raspberry Pi versions 3A +, 3B, 3B +, 4B. All of these models have the same 40-pin connector and the same mounting.
Is board compatible with extended board of other manufacturers?
Yes, this board is compatible with expansion boards from other manufacturers. The problem could only arise if a board from another manufacturer contained the same chip and a communication collision occurred. If the fan control is in conflict with the pin used, it can be switched to another output from the Raspberry.
Is possible to connect another external fan to the fan output?
The fan output is designed for a power of 5V / 200mA which is about 1W. If one or more connected fans are at this voltage of 5V and do not exceed the defined power, it is possible to connect them to the output pads in parallel. The pads are accessible from both the top and bottom of the board. Be careful of soldering these surfaces carefully. Damage to them may impair the function of the board and will void the warranty. The power output for the fan is linear, not pulsed (PWM), which guarantees full compatibility with all available fans.
What if the fan control pin is used for another purpose?
When pin 12 (GPIO18 - PCM_CLK) is used to control the fan for another purpose, the resistance on the PCB connecting the 40-pin connector and the fan control input can be removed. There is a variant of mounting pin 32 (GPIO12) or a variant for constant full power without processor control.
Is it possible to power Raspberry via standard usb input?
Yes, if you need to power the board via the USB connector directly on the Raspberry board, it's footable and everything will continue to work. Peripherals are powered from 5V or 3V3 so it will not be a problem.
